A Sub-Inspector (SI) named Parashuram from Shamirpet Police Station in Medchal district was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of ₹2.22 lakh to help a complainant escape a police case. On April 15, 2025, a person reported the theft of oil containers worth ₹2.42 lakh from a vehicle delivering to a kirana shop in Shamirpet. Following an investigation, police identified two individuals, Surya and Akhilesh, as the culprits and took them into custody on the same day. During interrogation, it was revealed that another person had purchased the stolen oil containers.
SI Parashuram, who was investigating the case, summoned the buyer to the police station on April 20 and threatened to name him as an accused in the theft case. He demanded a bribe of ₹2 lakh to let the buyer off. Frightened, the complainant delivered ₹2 lakh to the SI’s car outside the police station on April 21. However, Parashuram later called the complainant, claiming the amount was short by ₹25,000 and demanded the additional sum. The complainant negotiated to pay ₹20,000, but the SI insisted on ₹22,000, citing the need to share the bribe with constables and others.
Frustrated by the SI’s increasing demands, the complainant informed the ACB on April 23. On Monday, April 28, 2025, ACB officials set up a trap outside Shamirpet Police Station and sent the complainant inside with ₹22,000. When the complainant informed Parashuram that he had brought the money, the SI instructed him to place it in a dustbin near the table and leave. As soon as the complainant complied and exited, Parashuram retrieved the money from the dustbin and began counting it. At that moment, ACB officials swooped in and caught him red-handed.
The ACB recovered the ₹22,000 in the presence of the SI. Officials urged the public to report any instances of government employees demanding bribes by calling the toll-free number 1064.
