Save Adani
Indian Representatives Plead with Trump Administration
New York: The Adani Group is making strenuous efforts to extricate industrialist Gautam Adani from criminal allegations in the United States. As part of these efforts, Bloomberg News reported that the group held meetings with certain officials in the Trump administration. The news agency clarified that these discussions, involving Adani, who is considered very close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are not recent and have been ongoing since the beginning of the year. A meeting was held in March with the US Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, and the Department of Justice.
Bloomberg elaborated, “The talks, which began earlier this year, have intensified in recent weeks. If the discussions continue at this pace, they could reach a resolution in the coming month. Some individuals stated that the details cannot be disclosed as the consultations are highly confidential.” Representatives are vigorously working to ensure that Adani’s prosecution does not align with President Donald Trump’s priorities and are pleading for reconsideration.
Last November, the US Department of Justice filed charges against Gautam Adani, his nephew and group executive director Sagar Adani, and managing director Vneet S. Jaain, alleging they paid $265 million in bribes to secure power contracts in India and misled American investors during fundraising efforts. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) also filed a civil complaint against two Adani Group directors.
However, Adani Green dismissed the allegations as baseless and appointed law firms to conduct an independent review. These firms gave Adani a clean chit, stating no irregularities occurred. Notably, Adani Green extended the tenure of Vneet Jaain, who is facing the indictment, for another five years.
