A violent mob attacked the Bongaon police station in West Bengal following the arrest of Humayun Kabir, who allegedly stabbed four people outside a madrassa. The incident occurred when supporters of Kabir gathered at the station, demanding his release, and soon turned aggressive, setting fire to vehicles and pelting stones at police personnel. Ten individuals have been detained in connection with the arson and violence. Authorities have stated there is no communal angle to the incident, describing Kabir as “mentally unstable,” but tensions remain high in Bongaon. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain order, and a high-level inquiry is underway to investigate the cause of the unrest. Local leaders have called for calm, while residents express fear over escalating violence. The injured victims of the stabbing are stable, and police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify other perpetrators involved in the mob attack.
