In Kadapa district, TDP MLA Madhavi Reddy has stirred significant political waves, cementing her reputation as a firebrand leader. Despite winning only in the recent election, she has managed to remain consistently in the spotlight for her aggressive political approach. Nicknamed “Kadapa Reddamma,” she has shown remarkable tenacity, facing criticism but refusing to back down.
Power Shift: Removal of Kadapa Mayor Suresh Babu
With Kadapa being YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy’s home turf, TDP has placed special emphasis on Madhavi Reddy’s leadership. Recently, she spearheaded the removal of Kadapa Mayor Suresh Babu, asserting her political power.
During a Municipal Corporation meeting, Madhavi Reddy was denied a chair on the dais. Staying true to her political resolve, she ensured the removal of Suresh Babu from his position, calling out alleged irregularities in municipal contracts. Reports suggest that Suresh Babu had granted a ₹60 lakh contract to a company where his family members held directorial roles, which eventually led to his dismissal.
TDP’s Resurgence in Kadapa
For the first time in decades, TDP has gained significant ground in Kadapa district, winning seven out of ten Assembly seats in the 2024 elections. The party, which last won Kadapa in 1999, had struggled for 25 years to reclaim its hold in the region.
Despite the expectation of a ministerial position, Madhavi Reddy did not get a cabinet berth due to strategic political considerations. However, her bold decisions and confrontational approach continue to make her a key figure in Kadapa politics.
Strong Political Roots
Madhavi Reddy’s husband, Reddappagari Srinivasulu Reddy, is the Kadapa TDP district president, and their family has been deeply entrenched in TDP politics. Their financial and social influence has played a crucial role in keeping TDP’s presence alive in Kadapa, even when the party struggled to secure victories in past elections.
Since her victory, Madhavi Reddy has been highly proactive, making assertive moves in corporation matters and refusing to yield to opposition pressure. Her determined stance in municipal meetings, where she challenged officials over seating arrangements, signified her willingness to fight politically.
Her tenacity continues to shape the political discourse in Kadapa, making her a leader to watch in the coming years.
