- Israel Cabinet Approves New Gaza Plan
Tel Aviv: On Monday, the Israeli Cabinet gave the green light to a new plan for Gaza. Israeli officials stated that all ministers approved the proposal to fully occupy the Gaza region and maintain a presence there for an indefinite period. If implemented, this plan would significantly expand Israel’s military operations in Palestinian territory. It is also likely to face severe international backlash. The plan was unanimously approved during a cabinet meeting held on Monday morning. Just hours earlier, the Israeli military chief announced that thousands of reserve soldiers had been called up for duty. Israel’s war objectives include defeating Hamas and securing the release of all hostages in Gaza. The new plan involves relocating hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to southern Gaza, which could exacerbate the already severe humanitarian crisis, according to concerns raised.
New Plan for Aid
In mid-March, Israel violated a ceasefire agreement and launched aggressive attacks, taking control of nearly 50% of Gaza’s territory. It also blocked humanitarian aid from entering Gaza. Israeli officials stated that allowing humanitarian aid would enable Hamas to maintain its grip on Gaza. Instead, they believe that using private security companies to distribute humanitarian aid, rather than Hamas, would weaken the group’s influence among the population. Israel has informed the United Nations of this plan, as per an internal cabinet memo. On Sunday, a memo was also sent to aid organizations, detailing discussions between the Israeli defense agency responsible for coordinating food supplies in Gaza and UN officials. However, the memo did not specify when or how this aid would be delivered. Israel has made it clear that its goal is to gradually implement its plan in Gaza.
