New Delhi: In a major development at reduction of tensions at the border and the Line of Control, the Directors-General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan on Monday agreed that both sides will consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas.
The second round of talks between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan was held on Monday evening over the hotline. “Issues related to continuing the commitment that both sides must not fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive and inimical action against each other were discussed,” said the statement issued by the Indian Army.
“It was also agreed that both sides consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas,” it added.
The understanding on cessation of hostilities was announced following talks between the two DGMOs on Saturday. Though there were cases of violation of the understanding by the Pakistani military on Saturday night, there were no such incidents on Sunday night. “The night remained largely peaceful across Jammu & Kashmir and other areas along the international border,” the Army said in a brief statement on Monday morning. “No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days,” it said.
