Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring potential counterattacks against Pakistan. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) are regularly updating the Prime Minister on ground-level situations. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with the chiefs of the three armed forces. A crucial meeting is underway at the South Block in the Ministry of Defence, attended by the CDS, the chiefs of the three services, and senior officials. Discussions are focused on the attack launched by Pakistan last night, the response of the Indian armed forces, and subsequent developments. Rajnath Singh is also consulting with the service chiefs on the current situation at the borders and the measures to be taken.
Key meetings have been ongoing since this morning as part of the central government’s response to the situation. On one hand, the CDS, Chief of Defence Staff, senior officials, and the National Security Advisor have briefed the Prime Minister on the events of last night, including India’s response, bilateral actions taken, and other security-related measures. They are continuously providing relevant information to the Prime Minister, seeking appropriate suggestions and guidance.
On the other hand, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with the chiefs of the three services, the Chief of Defence Staff, and senior officials of the armed forces, is conducting a critical review. This review, ongoing for the past one to one-and-a-half hours, covers the attacks carried out by Pakistan targeting Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur last night, the manner in which these were repelled, and the current situation at the borders. Discussions also include Pakistan’s ongoing unilateral ceasefire violations, how these are being countered, and the measures to be taken moving forward.
According to sources in the Defence Ministry, all operations conducted by the Indian government so far, including responses to various attacks, have been entirely successful. However, India now faces a new challenge: acquiring adequate weaponry. In this context, the Indian government is reportedly planning a key meeting today with organizations involved in the production of arms and ammunition. Representatives of the Indian government have summoned the heads of these organizations to Delhi, and a meeting with them is expected to take place at any moment. The objective is to initiate production on a war footing, intensifying manufacturing efforts beyond current levels to meet the heightened demand.
Meanwhile, alongside the measures taken by the central government, bilateral discussions are also proving successful. Pakistan’s economic situation has already deteriorated significantly. Over the past three days, developments have led to a decline in Pakistan’s stock markets and financial affairs. Against this backdrop, Pakistan is making special appeals to its partner nations, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and other international financial institutions, claiming that the attacks by the “enemy nation” have caused significant losses and requesting financial support.
In this context, a critical decision regarding Pakistan’s appeal is expected to be made at a key IMF board meeting today. Government sources indicate that Indian officials at the IMF are likely to respond appropriately to this matter. Thus, while the government is actively engaged in consultations on defense-related measures, meticulously reviewing all aspects and taking appropriate actions, it is also pursuing bilateral discussions. At the same time, India is working to block Pakistan’s efforts to secure economic resources, continuing this process strategically.
