Hyderabad: The Trump administration has announced the suspension of federal funding to Harvard University. Education Secretary Linda McMahon stated that this action was taken because the university refused to implement certain policy changes as directed. She mentioned that cuts would be imposed on the budget and tax exemptions, and clarified that no new grants would be approved for Harvard until it complies with the government’s demands. McMahon specified that the suspension applies only to federal research grants, while federal financial aid to help students pay tuition fees would continue. She added that Harvard would need to negotiate with the federal government to become eligible for new grants.
On the other hand, Harvard President Alan Garber responded to these measures, stating that the actions were taken because the university refused to comply with what it considers unlawful government demands. Garber emphasized that Harvard would continue to fight against the various ways the government attempts to suppress it.
