Karimnagar police have arrested two thieves involved in a series of thefts. They seized 10 lakhs in cash and 250 grams of gold from the accused. One of them targeted bus passengers, while the other, addicted to a lavish lifestyle, committed thefts, according to Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gous Alam. He advised against sleeping with doors open during summer and urged passengers to be cautious while traveling by bus. Police arrested an individual stealing bags from passengers at the Karimnagar bus stand. He was caught during patrolling near Kaman Chowrasta in the city. The suspect, Kandi Sampath Reddy, who was wearing a mask suspiciously, was taken into custody and confessed to the crimes during interrogation, police said. The accused, from Nawabpet village, has prior cases registered against him in Karimnagar and Afzalgunj. On February 24, he stole 47 grams of gold from a woman’s bag traveling from Karimnagar to Hyderabad. On April 8, he stole 13 lakhs from an elderly man’s bag traveling from Godavarikhani to Secunderabad. On February 14, he stole 16.5 tolas of gold ornaments from another woman’s bag heading to Hyderabad, he admitted during questioning. Police recovered 150 grams of ornaments and 10 lakhs in cash from him, said Karimnagar CP Gous Alam.
Speaking further, CP Gous Alam said, “He is a regular offender. He has previous cases in Karimnagar town and Hyderabad. He mainly targets passengers at bus depots. When passengers are not alert, he opens their bags, checks for valuable items, and steals them. Our crime team identified him using CCTV footage, other evidence, and human intelligence. He is involved in three cases, registered under crime numbers 252/25, 251/25, and 112/25 at One Town PS. Through him, we recovered 10 lakhs out of 13 lakhs in cash and 147 grams of gold.”
In another case, police arrested Sura Ravi from Narsampet, Warangal district. Addicted to bad habits, he committed thefts and had been to jail multiple times in the past, police said. On the 13th of this month, he broke into a house in Sapthagiri Colony in the city and stole 35,000 in cash and 175 grams of gold. He sold some of the gold in Vijayawada to fund his lavish lifestyle. When the money ran out, he returned to Karimnagar to sell the remaining gold hidden at his brother-in-law’s house. This morning, police spotted him moving suspiciously near Padmanagar Chowrasta, took him into custody, and he confessed to the crime during interrogation. Police recovered 100 grams of gold from him, said CP Gous Alam. “The second accused is involved in a case registered under crime number 187/25 at Town PS. We recovered 100 grams of gold in this case. Through these two individuals, we seized a total of 10 lakhs in cash and 247 grams of gold, with a total value of approximately 34 lakhs. To address this, we are setting up an outpost where our staff will be available 24/7. If any offense occurs, victims can file a complaint at the outpost, enabling us to take swift action.”
CP Gous Alam urged victims of bus thefts to file complaints promptly. He announced that an outpost will be established at the Karimnagar bus stand to prevent thefts.
