The liquor scam that occurred during Jagan’s regime is an international scandal, stated Somireddi Chandramohan Reddy, a member of the Telugu Desam Politburo. He demanded that the real “Big Boss” behind the liquor scam be sent to jail. Reddy urged the central government to intervene immediately and deploy the CBI and ED to investigate the matter. He alleged that due to the greed of the Big Boss, many people lost their lives after consuming spurious liquor. Reddy condemned the act of endangering the lives of the poor through illicit liquor as an unforgivable crime.
Speaking further, Somireddi said, “The sales made directly without going through depots were not just worth 3,200 crores but exceeded 10,000 crores. After the government changed, I read news reports and called Saddala Sridhar Reddy to ask, ‘What’s happening? Are they taking control of your distilleries?’ He told me, ‘Our SPY Industries, the distillery we worked hard to establish, has fallen into the hands of Midhi Reddy.’ That same person has been arrested today. Even the McDowell’s distillery in Singarayakonda, linked to MP Magunta Srinivas Reddy, faced closure. When McDowell’s company refused to pay the bribes demanded, they were told, ‘Shut down your national and international brands. Sell the liquor we produce, and let people drink it and die.’ Is this democracy? For the past five years, they thought, ‘As long as we have money, that’s enough.’ But I ask, what gives you the right to take human lives? This is not just a national issue; it’s an international-level scam. International players have amassed money and taken lives. This is not a trivial matter; it must be taken seriously. Why isn’t the ED stepping in? The central government must intervene. The ED and CBI should immediately investigate this scam. The Big Boss whose greed caused this, along with their family, must face justice. You’ve amassed thousands of crores by putting the lives of the poor at stake.”
