Killer Twist in Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case
Mother of Raja: “Whoever committed the murder should receive the harshest punishment. What condition was my child in? How agonizing was it? If Sonam loved him so much, how could she leave Raja in this condition? And how is Sonam safe? Why didn’t Sonam get even a scratch?”
Eighteen days after a newlywed couple from Madhya Pradesh went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, police have cracked the chilling case. The husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found murdered, and three men have been arrested, while the wife, Sonam, has surrendered. Meghalaya Chief Minister K. Sengma confirmed the breakthrough on Monday morning on the social media platform X, stating that within seven days, a major breakthrough had been achieved: three assailants from Madhya Pradesh were arrested, the female suspect surrendered, and one more accused is still on the run.
Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) Non Graang revealed shocking details, stating that Sonam allegedly hired men to murder her husband. One accused was apprehended in Uttar Pradesh, while the others were arrested in Indore by the Special Investigation Team. The DGP further identified the arrested accused, named others involved, and revealed the wife’s role. Sonam later surrendered at Nandganj Police Station in Uttar Pradesh.
For context, the couple had been honeymooning in Sohra, Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, and were reported missing soon after their arrival. Concerned family members, unable to reach them by phone, rushed to Meghalaya. Authorities launched a massive search with police, SDRF, NDRF, and drone assistance. A week ago, Raja’s body was found in a deep gorge near Wei Saudelong Falls, spotted by a police drone. Alongside the body, a dao, a traditional cutting weapon, was recovered, believed to be the murder weapon. Police also pieced together evidence from CCTV footage from multiple locations the couple visited. These clues gradually built the trail that led to the arrests and Sonam’s surrender. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to apprehend the remaining suspect.
Statement from UP Police on Sonam’s Arrest
Iraj Raja, SP Ghazipur: “This morning, information was received at Nandganj Police Station from the Madhya Pradesh Police about a woman named Sonam located at Kashi Dhaba, in the Nandganj police station area on the Varanasi-Gorakhpur Highway.
