
Hyderabad: Vaishnavi Merla has officially taken charge as State Information Commissioner, with Chief Information Commissioner Dr. G. Chandrashekar Reddy administering the oath of office at Samachara Hakku Bhavan on Wednesday.

The event was attended by State Information Commissioners P.V. Srinivas Rao, Mohsina Parveen, Deshala Bhoopal, and B. Ayodhya Reddy, along with several officials from the Telangana Information Commission.
Background and Appointment
Merla was appointed following the recent selection of the Chief Information Commissioner and four other commissioners. She holds degrees in Computer Science Engineering and Law and has previously practiced as an advocate.
Tenure and Responsibilities
As per the orders issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, Merla will serve a three-year term or until she attains the age of 65, whichever comes first.
This appointment is part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen the Telangana Information Commission, which has been handling a significant backlog of RTI appeals and complaints.
