
Nambala Keshava Rao, the mastermind behind the Alipiri bomb attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, was killed in an encounter. He played a key role in the 2010 attack that killed 76 CRPF jawans. Following the resignation of Maoist leader Ganapathy, Nambala Keshava Rao took over as the supreme commander of the Maoist party in 2018, rising through the ranks. A native of Warangal district, Keshava Rao was drawn to the Maoist movement during his studies and took to the forests. He was the main conspirator in numerous cases, with a bounty of ₹1.5 crore on his head. Skilled in guerrilla tactics and handling IEDs, Keshava Rao studied engineering at Warangal’s Regional Engineering College (REC) and was pursuing an M.Tech when he joined the Naxalite movement. His father was a teacher.
Born in Srikakulam District
Born in 1955 in Jiyyannapeta, Srikakulam district, Keshava Rao completed his engineering at REC Warangal. While studying, he joined the People’s War group and gradually rose through its ranks. Active in the Naxalite movement since the 1970s, he was arrested once in 1980. In 1987, he received training from the LTTE in Bastar forests, specializing in ambush tactics and gelatin handling. In 1992, he was elected to the Central Committee of the People’s War group and became the Maoist party’s general secretary in 2018. This is the first time a Maoist general secretary has been killed in an encounter. He was serving as the general secretary of the Maoist party at the time of his death.
