The government has announced good news for those traveling from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam. The construction of the Green Field Express Highway, connecting Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, is set to begin soon. Named the 365 BG Highway, preparations are underway to launch it by August 15. This 162-kilometer highway between Khammam and Devarapalli is said to be distinct from other roads, passing through lush green fields, offering travelers a chance to enjoy nature. Once completed, this Green Field Highway will reduce the distance between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam by 125 kilometers. Three years ago, the construction of this express highway from Khammam to Devarapalli in the present East Godavari district was initiated.
Green Field Highway
The Green Field Highway will start two kilometers from the Diamond Junction on the Devarapalli-Tallada National Highway. This four-lane, 162-kilometer highway is being constructed amidst green fields. The central government has acquired 1,996 acres of land across 31 villages for this project, which is being built at a cost of 4,609 crore rupees. The Khammam-Devarapalli Green Field National Highway is primarily aimed at reducing the travel distance between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam. Currently, traveling from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam, a distance of 676 kilometers, takes about 12 hours via Vijayawada.
Potential for Reduced Fares
With the completion of this new highway, travelers can bypass Vijayawada, reducing the distance by approximately 125 kilometers. This will allow people to reach Visakhapatnam from Hyderabad in just eight hours, saving four hours of travel time. Apart from private vehicles, fares for private and RTC buses traveling from Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam are likely to decrease due to the shorter distance. This could result in lower travel costs compared to current fares. Additionally, those using personal vehicles will save significantly on petrol and diesel expenses. While toll charges will apply, the highway promises a comfortable and safer journey for people from both states.
